Terms and conditions

The basis on which we sell, and on which you use this website.

1. Who you are dealing with

This site is operated by 1066 Firearms, a Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD 324 Sussex) based in Hastings, East Sussex.

You can reach us by telephone on 07711 506448 or by email at hello@1066firearms.com. We answer enquiries on both.

We do not publish the address of our premises. Stock is held securely and visits are by appointment; we give you the address when a visit is arranged.

2. The website is not a shop counter

Items shown in the catalogue are an invitation to enquire, not an offer to sell. Nothing on this site allows you to buy a firearm online. A sale is concluded only when we have accepted your order, seen a valid certificate and completed the transfer in the manner set out below.

We try to keep the catalogue accurate and current, but stock moves. Availability is confirmed only when we confirm it to you directly.

3. Certificates

You must hold, and produce, a valid certificate covering the item before it can be transferred to you. We check certificates in person, or through your receiving dealer. We will refuse or cancel any transaction where the paperwork is not in order, where the certificate does not permit the item, or where we have any concern about the lawfulness of the transfer — and we do not have to explain our reasons.

We do not sell firearms, shotguns, ammunition or airguns to anyone under 18.

3a. Heritage and Humane dispatch pistols

Items listed in our Heritage or Humane dispatch pistols section are prohibited weapons or prohibited ammunition within section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968. They are offered only to persons and organisations holding a current and appropriate Section 5 authority, granted by the Secretary of State in England and Wales or by Scottish Ministers in Scotland, or to a FAC holder with a variation to acquire one.

We verify the authority and satisfy ourselves that it covers the specific item before any sale is agreed. Listing an item does not offer it to the public, and no order for a Heritage or Humane dispatch pistol is accepted until that verification is complete. We may decline any Heritage or Humane dispatch pistol transaction at our discretion.

3b. Antique firearms

Firearms described as antique are sold on the basis that the buyer acquires them for possession as a curiosity or ornament under section 58(2) of the Firearms Act 1968. That exemption depends on the buyer's own purpose in holding the item, which is a matter for the buyer and not something we can determine or warrant.

If you intend to fire an item, or to acquire ammunition for it, the exemption will not apply and you must hold the appropriate certificate. Tell us before purchase so the transaction can be completed correctly.

4. Delivery

Firearms and shotguns — including Heritage and Humane dispatch pistols — are delivered only to a Registered Firearms Dealer authorised to receive them, or collected in person from our premises. We do not deliver a firearm to a residential address under any circumstances. Accessories that are not firearms may be sent to any address.

Where you ask us to transfer an item to another dealer, you are responsible for nominating a dealer willing to receive it and for any handling fee they charge. Carriage is quoted before you commit. Risk in the item passes on delivery to your nominated dealer.

Delivery timescales are estimates. Movements of firearms depend on approved carriers and on the receiving dealer's availability.

5. Prices and payment

Prices are in pounds sterling and, unless stated otherwise, exclude carriage and any receiving dealer's fee. We reserve the right to correct a price that has been listed in error before the sale is concluded.

Firearms licensing require that we do not accept a deposit for a firearm or shotgun unless you already hold the authority to acquire it — a variation to purchase, or the appropriate certificate with room on it. We will, however, hold an item for a period determined by us while your variation is processed.

6. Condition and description

Second-hand guns are sold in the condition described. We describe wear honestly and photograph faults rather than hiding them, but a used gun is a used gun and you are strongly encouraged to inspect it, or to have your receiving dealer inspect it, before completing.

Nothing here affects your statutory rights, including your right to goods that match their description and are of satisfactory quality.

7. Returns

Where a consumer's cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations apply to a distance sale, they operate subject to firearms law: a return can only be made dealer-to-dealer, never by post from a private address, and both the outward and return movements must be lawful. Contact us before returning anything so we can arrange it properly.

Items made or altered to your specification — bespoke fitting, alterations to stock dimensions — cannot be returned once work has begun.

8. Part exchange, commission and valuations

Valuations are our honest opinion of what an item will fetch, given free and without obligation. They are not a guarantee of sale price and should not be relied on for insurance or probate without a separate written valuation.

Commission sales are subject to a separate written agreement setting out the rate, the reserve and the period.

9. The licence renewal checker

Our renewal checker is a free planning aid. It performs arithmetic on the dates you enter and nothing more. It is not legal advice, it does not know your force's processing times, and it is not evidence of anything. Always confirm your position with your police firearms licensing department. We accept no liability for any decision taken solely on the basis of its output.

10. Liability

We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, our liability in connection with any sale is limited to the price paid for the item, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

11. Website content

The content of this site, including text, photographs and the 1066 Firearms name and logo, belongs to us and may not be reproduced without permission. Information given about firearms law is general guidance only and is not legal advice.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

13. Contact
