About
A dealer, not a warehouse
1066 Firearms is a small registered firearms dealer on the Sussex coast, a few miles from the field where the country changed hands in 1066.
We buy and sell rifles, shotguns, antique guns and the accessories that go with them, and we supply Heritage and Humane dispatch pistols to holders of the appropriate Section 5 authority or FAC variation. Everything is checked in our own workshop before it goes on the rack, and described the way we would want one described to us — including the wear the photographs flatter.
Why the name
Hastings has been living with 1066 for the best part of a thousand years. It is on the postcards, the buses and the school trips. It also happens to be a decent reminder of what this trade is really about: things made properly, looked after, and passed on still working.
How we work
We handle everything we sell
Nothing is listed from a photograph sent by someone else. Bores are checked, actions are worked, wall thickness is measured on the older barrels, and if something is off we say so in the description rather than waiting for you to find it.
We would rather you came in
A gun that looks right online can feel entirely wrong in the shoulder. If you can get to Hastings, come and try it. There is no pressure and no commission-hungry salesman — if it does not suit you, we will say so.
We work strictly to the certificate
We check certificates in person, we record every transaction in our register, and we notify the issuing police force as the law requires. If your paperwork is not in order we will help you sort it out, but the gun stays on the rack until it is.
What else we do
- Part exchange. Bring your gun in for an honest valuation against anything in stock.
- Sale on commission. If you would rather we found the right buyer, we will list it, handle the enquiries and do the paperwork.
- RFD transfers. Buying from elsewhere in the country? We can act as your receiving dealer.
- Sourcing. Tell us the make, model and budget and we will keep an eye out. There is no charge for asking.
- Section 5 transport. We are authorised to transport the following weapons: 5(1)(a), 5(1)(ab), 5(1)(aba), 5(1)(ac), 5(1)(af) and 5(1A)(a). Prices vary according to numbers and distance. Please ring for a quote.
- Classic and vintage. Older English guns are a particular interest. If you have inherited something and have no idea what it is, we are happy to look.

Visits are by appointment
We are in Hastings, East Sussex, and we give you the address when you arrange a time to come. A premises full of guns is not something to put a pin in on a public map, and we would rather be straightforward about why than pretend otherwise.
It costs you nothing — ring, email or message, tell us what you would like to look at, and we will have it out of the rack and ready when you arrive. It also means you are not making the trip on a day we happen to be out at a valuation or a game fair.
